2 The child being prone to becoming over weight or even obese.
3 A metabolism that is much slower then normal.
The Diet
The diet is the same for gestational diabetes as it is for a Type 2 diabetes diet. The diet should be set as the following.
1 Only use the leanest cuts of meat whilst making sure that all of the excess fat has been trimmed;
2 Avoid alcohol;
3 Stay well clear of those nasty saturated fats;
4 Non-fat or low-fat dairy products only;
5 Trans fats are also a big No No;
6 Try to avoid processed foods or take away foods;
7 Plenty of fresh water should be drunk daily;
8 Avoid high-sugar foods;
9 Plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes and grains are a must for the diet;
10 High-sodium foods must be avoided to;
11 Stay clear of microwavable meals;
12 Eat around 5 or 5 smaller meals everyday, rather then 2 large meals. Also keep to a steady routine for meal times making sure that you eat your meals the same time every day.
Also as well as planning and putting your healthy gestational diabetes diet into place, you should also be doing the following:
1 Make sure you exercise for 30 or so minutes each and every day to get your heart pumping;
2 Make sure you regularly check your blood sugar levels with a glucose monitor;
3 Go and speak to your family doctor and ask them to run blood work, this will then determine if you definitely have gestational diabetes;
4 Try to relax, meditation, Pilate’s and yoga are all good forms of relaxation. The less stressed you are the better.
5 Try to resist the cravings for those snacks that you may crave for. We all know that pregnant women crave for foods such as Ice cream and cakes. Sadly these are now a No No…!
